Amito Appoints Michael Tobin OBE as Chairman

Published 13th April 2021

Amito has appointed technology pioneer Michael Tobin OBE as Non-executive Chairman.

Michael is a highly successful serial entrepreneur, philanthropist and author. In 2014, he was awarded the OBE for Services to the Digital Economy in recognition of his contribution to technology, telecoms and data centres. Michael was previously CEO of Telecity Group plc, following the successful merger of Redbus Interhouse and Telecity.

Following Amito’s recent £38.7 million capital deal with investment from Harwood Private Equity, Michael’s appointment signals the next step in the company’s ambitious growth plans as it capitalises on the surge in digital services, ecommerce and enterprise investment in digital transformation.

This appointment is further strengthened by the long-standing relationship between Michael and Harwood, dating from 2005 when Harwood backed the merger of Redbus Interhouse and Telecity.

Ed Butler, Amito CEO, commented: “We are delighted to welcome Michael as Chairman. His wealth of experience and extensive knowledge of our industry will be a huge asset as we move into our next phase of growth. I remember first meeting Michael in 2006, shortly after I became a Redbus customer and we discussed the creation and evolution of data centre ecosystems; what is now a widely-accepted concept was novel at the time. I look forward to now working alongside him to continue driving Amito forward.”

Michael Tobin said: “I have been involved in the data centre industry for many years and am passionate about facilitating success with those companies that I believe are committed to delivering excellence. Amito has an exciting future ahead and I’m delighted to be driving the strategy forward alongside the board and management team.”
